Lakai - The Final Flare

POSTED: Friday, July 4th, 2008

Kudos to the marketing gods at Lakai… the skateboard company has just announced they are re-releasing their TWS skateboard movie of the year, Fully Flared, as a “special-edition” DVD. The FINAL FLARE DVD set consists of one HD Blu-ray disk and two standard def disks that include Fully Flared, photo galleries, unused scenes, alternate edits, unused clips, top secret film, tapes from the vault, plus a 60-minute behind the scenes documentary feature. In stores November 25th.
Apologies to the thousands of people who bought the original edition of FF - it’s now been rendered obsolete.

Red Bull Shoot to Thrill Contest

POSTED: Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

In an effort to unite the Canadian skateboard community around one common project, Red Bull Shoot To Thrill is back in a whole new format leaving no Canadian maple leaf unturned.

Building on its past success, this year’s event offers new opportunities to skaters across the country. When it all began in 2006, Red Bull Shoot to Thrill was a 72-hour photography contest. In 2007, it evolved into a Super 8mm motion picture contest. Moving with the momentum from last year’s film project, which starred such skaters as Rick McCrank, Alex Gavin and Ryan Decenzo, this year’s event opens its doors to the entire country with pro and amateur categories.

Red Bull Shoot to Thrill Video Contest

Ten selected ‘Pro’ teams from the major Canadian cities will be equipped with a Super 16mm Camera and 10 rolls of film. And for three days - Sept. 5-7 - they will have 72 hours to burn it all in this battle to win $8,000 cash for the best end-product. Photographers will also have a chance to dip into the pot, with a $2000 prize for best photo.

Not to be canned, crowned and forgotten, the ten pro films will also be brought to a screen near you. Stay tuned on Sept. 8 when a series of Red Bull Shoot To Thrill film premieres will be announced on redbullshoottothrill.com.

NEW IN 08 - AMATEUR DIVISION
Due to last year’s overwhelming response, and the nerve-ending task of picking only ten pro teams from this country’s sea of talent, the ‘Am’ category has been created to give a platform to our best up-and-coming talents. Matching the timeline of the Pro division, amateurs will be able to upload their best 3 - 5 minute digital segment from Sept. 5-7. The winner will be decided by the people via an open online vote on redbullshoottothrill.com, with top choice claiming $3000 in new filming equipment.
